14 Pinay Technicians completed the Skills Training in Domestic Appliance Repair Leading to EPAS NC II

The Provincial Training Center – Davao successfully conducted the culmination program of the Pinay Technicians: Skills Training in Domestic Appliance Repair Leading to Electrical Products Assembly and Servicing (EPAS) NC II on March 12, 2026. The activity also formed part of the celebration of National Women’s Month, highlighting the importance of empowering women through skills development and promoting gender equality in traditionally male-dominated programs.

The Pinay Technicians concept was initiated by Jonathan D. Samillano, Vocational Instruction Supervisor and GAD Focal of TESDA Provincial Training Center–Davao, to provide women with equal opportunities to participate and excel in technical training programs such as EPAS NC II. The initiative specifically targeted women, particularly homemakers, to equip them with practical knowledge and skills in repairing common household appliances.

Out of the 19 scholars, 14 women successfully completed the skills training in Domestic Appliance Repair. Throughout the training, the participants acquired essential competencies in troubleshooting and repairing various household appliances. This capability enables them to address minor appliance problems at home instead of discarding damaged units and purchasing new ones. As a result, the women can help their families save money while becoming more self-reliant in managing household needs.

Engr. Sammy S. Cameros, Center Administrator, led the culmination activity. Representatives from partner agencies, including the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), and the Office of Hon. Trisha Villafuerte, also attended the activity. Their presence highlighted the powerful support of various stakeholders in promoting women's empowerment through skills training and livelihood opportunities.

During the program, attendees recognized the scholars' achievements and dedication and awarded certificates to those who successfully completed the training. The participants also shared their experiences, emphasizing how the training boosted their confidence and encouraged them to explore technical skills that are often perceived as male-dominated. The program served as a testament that women, when given the opportunity and proper training, can equally excel in technical fields.

Moreover, the DECA Women’s Association, headed by its President Maria Dolores E. Placa, expressed her vision to further maximize the skills gained from the training by establishing a community-based appliance repair service in the future. The group also plans to engage in appliance repair caravans, where the trained Pinay Technicians can offer their services to the community while generating additional income to support their families.

The culmination of the Pinay Technicians training, as part of the National Women’s Month Celebration, signifies a meaningful step toward strengthening women's empowerment through technical education. By equipping women with practical skills in appliance repair, the program promotes self-reliance, financial savings for households, and potential livelihood opportunities for the participants and their communities.
