Forging Stronger Skills Development: SPECS and PTC-Davao Initiate Partnership Talks

Strengthening partnerships between industry and training institutions remains a crucial step toward advancing the quality and relevance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the region. In line with this goal, representatives from the Society of Philippine Electro-Technical Constructors and Suppliers, Inc. (SPECS) – Davao Chapter and the Provincial Training Center – Davao (PTC-Davao) convened for a coordination meeting to explore opportunities for collaboration that will further enhance skills development in the electrical sector.

The meeting brought together key officials from both organizations, including Engr. Orlando C. Ang, President of SPECS – Davao Chapter; Eligio P. De Guzman; Engr. Sammy S. Cameros, Center Administrator of PTC-Davao; and Jonathan D. Samillano, Vocational Instruction Supervisor. The discussion focused on identifying strategic areas where industry expertise and institutional training can work hand in hand to produce more competent and industry-ready professionals.

During the meeting, Engr. Orlando C. Ang expressed SPECS’ strong interest in forging a partnership with PTC-Davao to support the continuous improvement of TVET delivery in the region. He emphasized the organization’s willingness to contribute technical expertise and industry insights, particularly in strengthening training programs under the Micro-Credentialing Program, to ensure that competencies remain aligned with current industry standards and demands.

Both parties recognized the importance of close collaboration in addressing the evolving skills requirements of the electrical industry and in equipping future professionals with relevant, high-quality training. The dialogue highlighted a shared commitment to building a stronger bridge between industry and education to support workforce development.

As a way forward, both organizations agreed to conduct further discussions to formalize the partnership. SPECS also committed to providing recommendations and technical inputs that could help enhance the existing TVET curriculum. Meanwhile, PTC-Davao will prepare a proposal outlining specific areas of collaboration and draft a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to officially establish the partnership.

The meeting was held on March 11, 2025, marking the beginning of a promising collaboration aimed at strengthening industry-driven skills training in Davao.
