From Service to Skills: Soldiers of the 27th Infantry Battalion Power Up with TESDA Training

Service to the nation takes many forms—not only through safeguarding peace and security, but also through building skills that empower individuals and strengthen communities. In a meaningful step toward personal and professional development, uniformed personnel of the 27th Infantry (Action) Battalion embarked on a new learning journey that equips them with valuable technical skills for the future.

On January 13, 2026, the Provincial Training Center–Davao (PTC–Davao) conducted the Training Induction Program (TIP) for personnel of the 27th Infantry (Action) Battalion stationed at Barangay Malabog, Paquibato District. The activity formally oriented the trainees for the upcoming Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) NC II Training, which is implemented under TESDA’s Community-Based Training Program (CBTP)—an initiative that provides free training and competency assessment to help participants gain nationally recognized qualifications.

The induction program was attended and supported by officials of the 27th Infantry Battalion, led by LTC Eliezer M. Benjarin, INF (GSC) PA, Commanding Officer. Also present were Sharlah Amythiest T. Pugao (QMS) PA, CMO Officer, and Cpl. Laurence Bruno (MS) PA, Psyops NCO, whose presence demonstrated the battalion’s strong support for the professional development of its personnel.

The orientation was facilitated by Mr. Jonathan D. Samillano, VIS-Designate, together with Mr. Roldan M. Gasocon, EIM Trainer. Also joining the activity was the Davao City District Office (DCDO), represented by Mr. Francis Rey Buñawan, TESD Specialist I, who paid a courtesy visit and expressed support for the training initiative.

A total of 25 uniformed personnel actively participated in the program. The TIP served as a platform to discuss the training objectives, requirements, safety protocols, and the competency-based learning approach that will guide the trainees throughout the course. Participants were also briefed on their roles and responsibilities to ensure a productive and successful training experience.

Through the Community-Based Training Program, the soldiers will not only strengthen their discipline and teamwork but also acquire technical competencies in electrical installation and maintenance, opening pathways for sustainable livelihood and career opportunities beyond military service. The initiative reflects TESDA’s continuing commitment to bring accessible, quality technical education and skills training closer to communities—including those who dedicate their lives to protecting the nation.

Leadership Visit Strengthens TESDA Commitment at PTC Davao

Strong leadership is best demonstrated through engagement, collaboration, and a shared vision for progress. This was evident when Tarhata S. The Regional Director was warmly welcomed by the center’s employees led by Center Administrator Sammy S. Cameros. The visit marked Director Mapandi’s first engagement with the training center following her recent appointment.

During the activity, Director Mapandi met with staff and trainees, observed ongoing training sessions, and reviewed the center’s facilities and program implementation. The interaction provided an opportunity to exchange insights, strengthen coordination between the regional and provincial levels, and reaffirm TESDA’s commitment to delivering accessible and high-quality technical education and skills development.

The visit served as an encouraging moment for the PTC Davao community, highlighting the importance of leadership support in advancing TESDA’s mission of empowering individuals and communities through relevant skills training and lifelong learning opportunities.

Breaking the Silence: Empowering Communities Through Mental Health Awareness

Mental health is no longer a silent struggle—it is a conversation that communities must courageously embrace. Recognizing the growing importance of emotional well-being, the Provincial Training Center (PTC) Davao brought mental health awareness closer to the grassroots through a meaningful community training held on November 07, 2025, at Barangay Sto. Niño, Tugnok District, Davao City.

The Mental Health Awareness Training gathered community members in a learning environment that encouraged openness, understanding, and support. The activity aimed to deepen participants’ awareness of mental health, help them recognize early signs of mental health concerns, and equip them with practical strategies to promote emotional resilience within their families and communities.

The session featured Mr. Cesar S. Sumbiling Jr., Registered Social Worker, who shared valuable insights on the realities of mental health challenges and the importance of compassion, empathy, and timely support. Through his engaging discussion, participants learned how mental health affects daily life and why creating a supportive community environment is vital in helping individuals cope with stress, anxiety, and other emotional difficulties.

Facilitating the activity was Mr. Jonathan D. Samillano of PTC Davao, who guided participants through interactive discussions and practical learning activities. His facilitation encouraged active participation, allowing attendees to share experiences, ask questions, and reflect on how they can become advocates for mental well-being in their own communities.

Throughout the training, participants gained a clearer understanding of mental health concepts, discovered available local support resources, and learned simple yet effective techniques for managing stress and maintaining emotional balance.

More than just a learning session, the activity became a safe space where conversations about mental health were welcomed—breaking stigma and strengthening the community’s collective commitment to care for one another.

Through initiatives like this, PTC Davao continues to demonstrate that technical education and community development go hand in hand, nurturing not only skills for livelihood but also the well-being of the people they serve. The training left participants empowered with knowledge, compassion, and a renewed commitment to building a community where mental health matters and no one struggles alone. Skills in Action: PTC Davao Brings Free Gadget and Appliance Repairs to the Community

Broken gadgets and faulty household appliances were given a second life as technical expertise met community service during the
Serbisyong Katropa Caravan in Barangay Matina Aplaya—proving that skills can power meaningful change in everyday lives.

On October 19, 2025, the Provincial Training Center (PTC) Davao actively participated in the community outreach activity, offering free repair services for electronic devices, gadgets, and domestic appliances to local residents. The initiative quickly became one of the highlights of the caravan, as community members eagerly lined up to have their damaged items inspected and restored by skilled trainers.

Representing PTC Davao were EPAS trainers Mr. Roldan M. Gascon and Mr. Cipriano R. Rada Jr., who generously shared their technical expertise in diagnosing and repairing various electronic devices, mobile gadgets, and household appliances. With patience, precision, and professionalism, the trainers worked tirelessly throughout the activity, successfully reviving numerous items that residents rely on for communication, household chores, and everyday living.

For many beneficiaries, the service meant more than simply fixing broken devices—it brought immediate relief and convenience to families who depend on these tools at home. Through their dedication, the trainers not only restored functionality to essential equipment but also strengthened the community’s appreciation for technical-vocational education and skilled workmanship.

PTC Davao’s participation in the caravan reflects its unwavering commitment to public service, community empowerment, and accessible technical support. By bringing skills directly to the community, the center continues to demonstrate how TESDA’s training programs translate into practical solutions that improve people’s daily lives.

The activity also served as an opportunity to strengthen partnerships with local stakeholders while showcasing the vital role of Provincial Training Centers in delivering people-centered services. More importantly, it underscored a powerful message: when technical skills are shared with purpose, they become a force that uplifts communities and transforms everyday challenges into opportunities for service.
